January is a time of new beginnings, optimism and hope. The year ahead is full of expectation. During 2022 records will be broken, awards will be given, there will be new inventions and breakthroughs.
It’s good to have goals. January is a time when plans are made and goals are set. Goals motivate us and give us focus, keeping our personal compasses on track.
January is a time when people can be at their most positive. The old year has gone and there is a clean, unblemished page to be written. A positive state of mind can help us negotiate life’s ups and downs. If we can see the glass as half full, rather than half empty, it can lift our mood. A positive outlook can also fuel optimism in others.
At the beginning of the year we often seem more ready to consider new things. Maybe our being more open to inspiration and new ideas is because a new year holds the unknown, which is often accompanied by a kind of hopeful anticipation.
If we want to move forward spiritually January is a good time to try to do this because it’s a time when we may be more receptive. If we have the desire to develop our spirituality, to travel further along that path, we can ask our guides and helpers in the spiritual realms for assistance. Guidance might be given in a very obvious way or it might be subtle in nature.
As Spiritualists we believe in The Brotherhood of Man. We believe in caring for and helping one another, strangers included. We are all derived from the one Great Spirit and so are all spiritual brothers and sisters, regardless of race or nationality.
Now is a good time to seize opportunities to be more considerate, more thoughtful, to show kindness to others. At the start of a new year we can but hope that every person in every nation will take on board the principle of The Brotherhood of Man and try to “live it.” This could bring a dramatic reduction in violence and intentional infliction of harm, injury and pain.
The remaining 361 days of 2016 stretch before us, waiting to take shape. What kind of year will we have? Some things are beyond our control but to some extent it’s up to us. Our attitude will be crucial. We have all been given freedom of choice. What and how we choose to be is up to us.
