Most of us are familiar with the expression “Every cloud has a silver lining.” We’re currently living under a very big, dark and dangerous cloud called Covid-19. This is one cloud which doesn’t have a silver lining. There isn’t any consoling aspect to it.
Although there is nothing good about Covid-19, there are some changes that it’s brought about which are beneficial.
It’s resulted in life being much quieter. Road traffic is apparently down 70%, and those of us who live near flight paths will have noticed the 92% reduction in air traffic. If we live in an urban environment we may have noticed the continuous background hum has significantly decreased. For those of us not used to the quiet, it can feel strange. Normal living takes place at a frenetic pace,so stillness can seem alien. Some of us are almost afraid of silence, finding it difficult to sit and be still. We’ve got so much on our “to do list” that we feel we must always be doing “something.” We need to give ourselves permission to sit and be still. We can take our lead from the serenity of a sitting cat.
The removal of the distraction of noise enables us to stop and reflect on where we’re going and the purpose of our lives. Are we fulfilling it? If not, maybe we can use this quieter time to think about whether we should change direction. Finding and fulfilling our purpose gives our lives meaning and brings contentment.
Muted sound is beneficial when we try to connect with our own essence. Through meditation we can often find the answers we seek : either from within, by listening to our own inner voice, or through connection to the spiritual realm.
Our third principle, The Communion of Spirits and the Ministry of Angels tells us that the Spirit World communes with us, sharing with us thoughts and emotions. The angels minster to us, attend to our needs. It’s comforting to know that there is help available to us from the spiritual and celestial realms. If we ask for guidance we’ll get it. It helps us to be receptive if we’re calm. Communing with our spirit helpers, we can ask for courage and strength to help us to cope with the extra problems and difficulties we’re currently experiencing.
Praying when we have quiet around us aids our concentration and helps us to feel that connection to the Divine Energy. There’s power in silence. It’s helpful when we send out our requests for healing for those in need.
A few of us, sitting in circle recently, were privileged to hear the wise words of Fine Feather, the Spirit Guide of Alan Seymour, President of Croydon Spiritualist Church. Fine Feather spoke through Alan when he went into trance. Fine Feather said that what’s happening in the world is due to an imbalance in nature and he said that nature will overcome all it’s having to deal with. It will regenerate itself. He said we need to have positive thoughts and continue to send out healing prayers. He said they are effective in preventing more damage to nature, adding that our prayers for nature are as important as our prayers for individuals.
Peaceful surroundings and a mind freed from busy thoughts can make it easier for us to connect with our loved ones who’ve passed over. We know they’re only ever a thought away.
A quieter existence and slower pace of living brings with it many benefits. Just sitting in silence can recharge us spiritually. So, when life returns to something that resembles what it was before, we need to remember that sitting still is not wasting time. It’s important for our spiritual well-being.
