As a tribute to much loved committee member and social convenor, Lorna Colley, we unveiled a new garden bench at a memorial service on the first anniversary of her passing to spirit on December 14. Originally destined for the rear garden it was decided to place it by the main front and kitchen doors. The old bench was looking somewhat tired and is being spruced up and moved to the back garden. The prominent place for the new bench not only enhances its visibility but also serves as a more apt homage to Lorna, who often paused from her kitchen endeavours for a brief respite and a crafty cigarette on this spot!
During the poignant memorial service, church members and Lorna’s family fondly recollected her life, with heartfelt anecdotes shared from the platform by her daughters, Sharon and Donna. Tributes were also given by our president Anne-Marie Bond, former president Mollie McManus, our Honorary Vice President, Derek Pipe, and Honorary members Pat Davis and Monika Gadd. A fulsome tribute was also read out, written by our Former President and Vice President Alan and Pat Seymour. The service was followed by some delicious home baked cakes that Lorna would have been proud of!
